Last Updated: August 31, 2018 // 10:57 AM

COMING OCTOBER 2018

Minimum Version Requirement

The BlueJeans Outlook Add-in for Microsoft Windows will instate a Minimum Version Requirement from October 2018. Version 4.3 will become the new baseline version for the add-in. Once set, the add-in will verify that it meets the new minimum version requirement before resuming normal operations. Users on older versions of the add-in will need to update to version 4.3 or switch to the Office 365 Add-in.

Updating to Version 4.3

The update experience for users who have installed the add-in via an EXE or Per User MSI will be the same as the add-in is installed on the system's User Profile. Deployments using the Per Machine MSI may require admins to redeploy the add-in, depending on the update policy for your organization. For information on updating from specific versions of the add-in, please review the list below. For admin controlled deployments, it is highly recommended to update to 4.3 before October.

From 4.X to 4.3

The best update experience is available for users moving from version 4.0+ to 4.3.

Automatic Update (EXE or Per User MSI)

Once the minimum version requirement is set, the add-in will verify what build it is running and prompt the user to update.

  • Selecting Update Now will start the update process. During the update the add-in will be unavailable however, the standard Outlook client will be available. Once the update is complete, you will be prompted to restart Outlook immediately or later. After the restart, version 4.3 of the add-in will be installed and available.
  • Selecting Update Later will prevent the add-in from operating as expected until the update is performed. Clicking on the add-in will prompt the user to perform the automatic update again.

Admin Deployed Update (Per Machine MSI)

Once the minimum version requirement is set, the add-in will notify the user that an admin will be required to update. Admins will need to deploy the newest version of the Outlook Add-in before users will be able to access the add-in. Once deployed, the user must restart Outlook in order for it to take effect.

From 3.1+ to 4.3

Automatic Update (EXE, Per User or Per Machine* MSI)

Once the minimum version requirement is set, the add-in will verify what build it is running and automatically update.

  • During the automatic update, both the add-in and Outlook client will be unavailable. Once the update is complete, you will be prompted to restart Outlook. After the restart, version 4.3 of the add-in will be installed and available.
    • If the restart is delayed, then the older version of the add-in can be used. Once Outlook is restarted, then version 4.3 will be loaded.
  • Note* that the automatic update will only be available for the Per Machine version of the install if the original deployment had the Auto-Update flag set to TRUE and the user has admin privileges.
    • The auto-update flag can be set to false on a Per User installation. If set to false, the install must be done manually.

Admin Deployed Update (Per Machine MSI)

The automatic update through minimum version verification does not happen for a Per Machine installation. Admins will need to deploy the newest version of the Outlook Add-in before users will be able to access the add-in. This deployment will override the Auto-Update flag. Once deployed, the user must restart Outlook in order for it to take effect.

Special Note for version 3.4.761

Users updating from version 3.4.761 to 4.3 will encounter an error message after the installation process as completed, indicating that the install has failed. This is a false report. Users will need to restart Outlook in order to complete the update. The older add-in will continue to be used until the Outlook client is restarted.

From before 3.1 to 4.3

Automatic Update (EXE, Per User or Per Machine* MSI)

Once the minimum version requirement is set, the add-in will verify what build it is running and prompt to update.

  • Selecting Yes will start the update process in the background. While the update is being prepared, both the add-in and Outlook client can be used. Once the update is completed, you will be prompted to restart Outlook manually.
